THE APPLICATION PERIOD FOR THE 2023-2024 SCHOOL YEAR 
OPENS OCTOBER 1, 2022  ~  CLOSES JANUARY 31, 2023.

The Michigan Council of Women in Technology Foundation (MCWT) is pleased to announce its scholarship program for the 2023-2024 academic year. MCWT is offering scholarship opportunities for technology-focused high school seniors, GET-IT club high school seniors, and women who will be enrolled full-time in college-level courses for the 2023-2024 academic year at a Michigan college or university.

Most scholarships are $1,000 - $5,000 per year, potentially renewable (up to three years or graduation). GET-IT (Girls Exploring Together – Information Technology) club applicants must be a member of an MCWT Foundation GET-IT high school program.

The application deadline is January 31, 2023, 11:59 p.m. Late applications will not be accepted.

ELIGIBILITY

An applicant must be a female high-school student or currently enrolled college/university level student who is:

*A resident of the state of Michigan

*A student with a 3.0 GPA or better

*Enrolled (or will be enrolled) in a Michigan university

*Enrolled (or will be enrolled) in a qualified program with a technology focus

*A United States citizen

QUALIFIED MAJORS / DEGREE PROGRAMS

Each applicant must be enrolled during the grant period in a full-time undergraduate or graduate degree program in majors such as: Information Systems, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Assurance, Software Engineering, Computer Information Systems, Digital Forensics, Software Engineering, Digital User Experience. This is not a complete list but rather serve as examples.

NOTE: Programs in which technology is a secondary element, such as Library Science, Biomedical Engineering, Architecture, Mechanical Engineering, Finance, Psychology, or Marketing are NOT eligible for this scholarship. If your degree program is not specified above, please verify eligibility by emailing scholarships@mcwt.org.

The MCWT Foundation does not consider factors such as race, color, creed, religion, sexual orientation, national origin, or mental/physical disability in awarding this scholarship. U.S. Citizenship is required.

APPLYING FOR A SCHOLARSHIP

Applicants can access the scholarship application from the MCWT Foundation Programs Application site (https://mcwt.smapply.io/prog/FutureScholar) beginning Oct. 1, 2022. 

1. Complete a profile within our scholarship application system. 

2. Required Documentation

***Fill out the application

***Upload a copy of your most recent transcript. It may be un-official but MCWT Foundation will request an official copy at the Finalist Stage.

***Upload two letters of recommendation

***Upload your Resume (optional task)

3. Submit your completed application packet by certifying and electronically signing your submission. If an applicant is under 18, a parent will also need to certify and electronically sign.

Finalists will be invited to a VIRTUAL interview.

LETTERS OF RECOMMENDATION

Provide TWO letters of recommendation from current or former instructors, principals, religious leaders, coaches or other community leaders. Each letter must include at a minimum:

***Applicant's name

***How the writer knows the applicant, and for what period of time

***Evaluation of applicant's technical aptitude, if applicable

***Applicant's personal strengths and accomplishments

***Other information or factors pertinent to the applicant's potential for success

***Writer's name and title/position and contact information

NOTIFICATION

Scholarship winners will be notified in writing (email or letter) or via telephone. Recipients are invited with up to two guests to the MCWT Foundation Scholarship Award ceremony in May/June 2023. Winners must also be willing to have their names, short biographies, images, and other information distributed by the MCWT Foundation and mentioned on the Foundation’s Website. 

The annual scholarship award amount is divided per quarter or semester. The scholarship recipient must maintain an overall grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 and continue studies in a qualified major/degree program at a Michigan university to remain eligible for each subsequent semester to receive scholarship payment. Scholarship funds will be sent directly to the Financial Aid office of the college where the recipient is enrolled. Other requirements for compliance will be communicated at the time of the award.


OTHER AWARD BENEFITS

Recipients will receive an MCWT Foundation membership, a mentor from an MCWT partner corporation, and are encouraged to support or volunteer at MCWT Foundation-sponsored events such as the Golf Outing or Camp Infinity and to represent MCWT at on-campus events.

MCWT Foundation provides leadership, mentoring, community outreach, professional development and networking to women within the Michigan technology community. These scholarships awards are intended to encourage and support women with the interest, the aptitude, and the potential for a successful career in information technology. MCWT Foundation reserve the right to choose not to award a scholarship in one or more categories.
